This evening’s yogachallenge update is brought to you by a frustrated and out of sorts Dayleeo. Hi. That’s me. Thanks for being here!
Even though I slept in this morning, I was up and out at a decent hour. It had snowed a bit over night and everything had this awesome glittery dusting across the whole site. It was stunning but COLD af and windy. I went down to my usual spot at the large private bathrooms where I can tuck myself away and have a little quiet time, to notice that the doors to both of the spots that have enough space for me to roll out my mat were locked.
Hmm.. I thought, maybe best to come back in a bit.
On the second trip down, about 45 minutes later, I noticed that the doors were actually permanently (or at least for the season) screwed shut.
DOUBLE HMM….
@teamhumble was doing the pots so I came over to that room to wash my face, brush my teeth and help him finish up. Deciding I’d try again later at this spot in the evening. I was a bit bummed about having to change my yoga schedule to evenings, but if it meant not running into anyone, that’s what I’d have to do.
Today’s class was done partially in the pot wash area, and finished by sheepishly ducking into in a bathroom stall after an awkward encounter of someone coming in to do pots while I was in tree pose…

It definitely thrashed my concentration, and I finished up without much of a Shavasana because I just really wanted to get out of there.
There’s one more room I can try tomorrow, that may not get as much traffic because those sinks aren’t getting hot water at the moment, but I’m feeling pretty discouraged, and not sure where I can go to practice for the rest of this challenge without fearing getting walked in on.

During the bit of Shavasana I did get, I was able to hear the mics in the background of the video pick up the sound of an older gentleman urging a child to quit running saying “Stay back now, they’re taking a picture of Yoga! See that, They’re doing Yoga!”
Working with film and video I know EXACTLY how the camera operator was feeling in this moment. (He probably wanted to sock the guy in the face). But in fairness. it was very faint, and If I wasn’t wearing headphones I probably wouldn’t have picked up on it.
But I did have a good laugh thinking, DAMN, the folks MAKING the video can’t even get a practice in without being interrupted. I guess I’m not alone!
Maybe the practice of yoga isn’t about carving out a perfectly serene place where you can be your best, maybe it’s more striving to be whatever version of your best you can be, despite the circumstances..
I mean, flexibility is kind of one of the big things about yoga right?
And so tomorrow I shall try again.
