Oh man watching dog competitions brings me back to when I used to be a Junior Assistant in local events. My dog trainer mom would be asked every so often to be a guest judge, and as a Kid I was always SO looked forward to them, because I basically just got to run around and do all the duties that an intern would do. But AROUND DOGS ALL DAY.
Me around the age of Junior Assistant days with our Pit Bull Mix shelter dog Casey
I remember delivering scores from the judges to the official office boxes, making coffee for groomers, and assisting handlers by looking after their dogs when they needed to make a bathroom run. It was riveting stuff for a 10 year old kid. I was so stoked to be able to just hang around and take it all in. I also remember being completely EXHAUSTED at the end of the day. And no. I didn’t have to wear a suit dress. LOL

Which brings me to the other side of dog shows and competitions, It can be elitist and snobby as HELL! Even at the lower local levels there was folks getting high on their own supply of pedigree, perfection and tradition.
Not that I have anything against purebreeds! This is little corgi boy Remington, one of my dog sitting clients last year.
“Yes this breed should be short backed, long necked and elegant with an elegant stride, imported into the country from the congo in 1956… blah blah blahhh”…
After awhile it all starts to sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown.
In truth, when I hung around a lot of dog show folks, I always felt like I had more in common with the dogs. They were just there to hang out, do a good job, get a treat and sniff a few tails. If only they knew the ridiculous level to which they were being scrutinized, over the arch of a tail, or the flop of an ear. And don’t even THINK about bringing your rescue dog or mixed breed.

I will say however, that the agility scene is getting to be far more accepting of all breeds. Agility is such a fun show to put on, I guess they figured, any dog who’s fast and smart and wants to run around like a maniac should be allowed to compete, and I agree! It makes for great entertainment AND it shows folks that mutts are just as awesome as pedigrees!

Mom's doggo Bogey, a rescue from the streets of the Cayman Islands! She runs him through agility training because he LOVES it, but he's never competed to my knowledge.
In other Dayleeo news, today, I’ve got a bit of client work to take care of, and I’d love to get some yoga in, but that’s going to depend on what the weather does, after that I see some gaming in my future, of course my last day of Gratitude meditation before I start on 7 Days of FOCUS! YEESSSSssssSSSssss.
Until Next Time!
