Ok, I know Christmas was yesterday, but I wanted to take a moment to show you a bit of what we've lovingly coined our Christmas Corner here in the van. A designated spot to jam all of the holly-jolly festivity, cheer and gifts we could in a less than 3x3ft space.
As I’ve mentioned in the story of the Christmas Angel post from a week ago, the Van usually operates at a level-12-defcon-coziness level at all times. That’s just baseline, but we did want to do a bit to make things feel a little more Christmassy without running out and buying a bunch of plastic that we knew we wouldn’t use, and would be a drag to store after the holidays were over.
Let's begin!
In film making this is called an establishing shot- meant to orientate the view as to the setting of the story.. feel established yet? Feeling cozy??
Many of you know we like to sing the praises of our salt lamp, so most everything centers around its warm glow. Of course, angel was placed on top as soon as we got her back and cleaned her up, but somehow over the weeks the sea glass pendant necklace given to me by the lovely @lifemovedbysteem ended up on there as well. I love how the glow shines through the blue sea glass... oooohhhhh pretty!
Oh and you can also see the round flat rock I painted with silver nail polish- because... when you see a rock like that you paint it. AMIRITE??
Next it seemed appropriate to hang up the cards we'd gotten and some adorable custom holiday artwork by the uber-talented @opheliafu. Thanks Ophelia!!! Love that little bear!
We were also given a gorgeous bottle of red (which is now LONG gone but was much enjoyed) in a paper Christmas bag, so, I gutted it (naturally), and pasted the santa graphic and "Merry Christmas" up in our corner. Might as well give that bag a second life before it goes in the bin right?
Here you can see the handle from the wine bag that I cut geometric shapes on the ends of, and wrapped the red velvet handle around more lights, along with my crowning achievement. I call it "Pringles Can Top with Nail Polish Snowflake". Consider yourselves, moved....
Ok I know this part may be a bit of a stretch, but at this point I was just chucking anything I could in this corner as my excitment started to reach critical mass. This is a bit cut out of a cardboard box that housed a cheese and cracker set given to us by @teamhumble 's sweetheart of a girl Ella.
The only part of the corner that we did end up buying were the stockings because they were actually quite decent knit quality and we figured we could use them for other things thrughout the year, maybe hanging onion or garlic storage? Cable management? We'll figure out something ;)
Also, when in doubt, just grab your winter hats, gloves and scarves and chuck them in the corner too. It all fits the theme right? And when you're running out the door you know just where your hat is...
say it with me....
IN THE CHRISTMAS CORNER!!
Heres the last and final step, if you've got a screen anywhere near by, chuck a video of a fire burning up there and you're SET! Make sure you crank the audio and sit in front of your little heater unit for MAXIMUM effect.
Haha I know this was a silly little post, and in NO WAY was it meant to condemn anyone for buying Christmas decorations but if it jogs a few ideas about how you can reuse and recycle a bit of the tidal wave of packaging of gifts, snacks and toys that seems to decend upon us wether we want it or not, then this post has served its purpose.
I hope you're having a lovely, restful, uncomplicated Holiday season wherever you are, however you decide to celebrate or not. The most important thing to remember is how to participate on YOUR terms that work for you, and not get swept away by all the craziness.
Much love and coziness to you friends!
