Today on Earth, (an M class planet, full of troubles at the moment) the landmass known as North America, is experiencing a solar eclipse.
I, a lowly human female, decided to retreat to the mountains for a bit of mid work-week R&R and decided to spend the better part of the peak hour water painting with my Buddha Board.
If you haven’t heard of a Buddha Board they’re really fabulous devices, they are a black board covered with a special material which becomes transparent when water is applied. Think of the slowest etch-a-sketch ever.
Japanese calligraphy students use them to practice their characters without wasting ink or paper, and white people use them to learn about the impermanence of life and feel good about how “zen” they are.
In all honesty, I really missed not having mine this year and after my meditative zone out session today, I promised I’d find a way to cram it into my suitcase when I head back to the UK.
I set up my phone on it’s trusty tripod and recorded a little time-lapse video for you. I hope you enjoy!
I didn’t notice the eclipse at the time because it remained fairly sunny, but in playback, you can see the strange way the light moves across the table as the moon passes in front of the sun. Kinda jazzed that I was able to capture it in my own way. :)
If you’ve never seen the official video for this Across The Universe cover by Fiona Apple, it’s one of my favorites of all time. I can’t tell you how many times in my teenage years I would sit in my old Volkswagen in some parking lot somewhere and listen to this track over and over and over, envisioning the video.
It’s part of why I started getting into video and film. To me, it’s pretty much perfect.
