Walk with us as we venture out into one of England's beautiful natural forests armed with only our phones and vague premonitions about impending rain storms!

Happy New Year to all of the lovely inhabitants of Steemlandia! I hope your holiday was as awesome as mine was. It was filled with drinks, lazy days gaming, laughs and photo walks!

One of my best Upwork clients sent me a bit of a care package that came in just a few days ago. They're an organic vegan skincare line that's formulated especially for extremely sensitive skin. Working closely with them for over a year now, I can tell you they're super passionate about sustainability and using 100% cruelty-free products and practices.

I can't tell you how nice it is when you get to work with clients who share the same convictions as you do. Things just click, and it's an easy healthy work relationship. We've been under some tight deadlines together but I have to say I'm so thankful to have found them and I really love working on their package design.

I was BEYOND stoked to receive this package in particular, of course, because it was filled with a travel cleanser, moisturizer and sheet masks, BUT what was even cooler is that it was the travel kit and canvas bag I had designed over a year ago!

It's a super special feeling to actually hold something your hand that was just a flat graphic on your machine. A lot of the time, I never get to fully see the things I design for clients in real life. I'm a part of their supply chain, I do my bit and pass my work on.

I couldn't help but wanting to take the travel kit with us on our first walk of the new year!-- It was muddy as all hell, (a nice break in for my new hiking shoes!)and we were dodging sprinkles and showers here and there...

Thankfully, I had an awesome art director in @teamhumble helping me find interesting spots, angles and, scenes to arrange the kit (with minimal mud damage).

I really wanted to do a good job as a thank you to my client for sending me product all the way from HONG KONG! I figured if they got a nice little photo pack they could use on social or in their marketing materials it would be a nice gesture of appreciation... also I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of the latest product I've just done design and mockup work on!

Shoutout to @teamhumble standing just outside the frame here, bracing to spring into action at the sign of a gust of wind that might take the whole setup tumbling into the pond!

The toughest thing for me to get used to having a fairly up to date phone is remembering to use portrait mode for things besides portraits! It still feels like they're working the bugs out on the software end, and I'm learning what kinds of shots really work and the kinds that it doesn't like, but I feel like It's becoming native again to me...

Almost all of the photos on our site nomad.pictures were taken with my iphone6 Plus. LOVED taking photos with that phone, it just felt native. I knew what it would do with the color range, how it would handle different types of lighting. I know it sounds silly, but have you ever had a piece of tech or an instrument that just feels like an extension of you? You can reach for it and use it without even thinking. Easy.

I'm getting there little by little, I guess it all comes down to practice and adaptation, like anything in life!

Can anyone out there translate this for me? (If not, please tag someone who might know!) Google was no help, I'm super curious to know what it says!

Also, PROTIP about shooting photos in the English countryside, you may be dodging rainclouds, and trekking through tons of mud... BUT...

The lighting right before and after that bit of rain can be some of the best!

Between me and you, I REALLY wanted to just take the whole kit and the pretty white canvas bag and PLOP it down in the wettiest muddiest puddle I could find, and play with some really cool mud splattery photos, but I couldn't bring myself to do it! It's my only one! I couldn't bear to ruin it like that just for a shot haha.

I hope you enjoyed this photo walk, we got out just as the next bout of rain was coming in. The timing was quite perfect, and we got about 10k steps in on the fitness end! You just can't beat a good walk, with gorgeous scenery and lovely company! It was a perfect way for me to greet the New Year. Exercising, Making and Laughing with someone who supports my, sometimes very muddy, creative expression.

Until Next Time Friends!
