Hi hi blockchain, It’s been a weird transition into fall for me. More details to come in subsequent posts, but let’s just say the leaves aren’t the only things cha-cha-changin’!

I received a bit of news last night. I won’t call it good or bad news because frankly, only time will tell. One of my biggest clients, and largest sources of income, (based in Florida) has opted to put my contract on hold in the wake of hurricane Irma.

For a freelancer and online digital worker, there’s no such thing as job security and to be frank I’m lucky I can make money online at all. I’ve had a lot of success on Upwork, I believe, because I work hard, I’m honest & frank with my clients, and always go above and beyond the call of the contract. But storms happen, things change, and budgets get cut. I get it.

I could sit around and hem and haw, about things not being “fair” or panic about how I’m going to replace my biggest source of income, but if I’m honest, I don’t have the time or energy to waste. And I’d rather be thankful for what I do have, instead of focusing on circumstances I can’t change.

So, we put on a new pot of coffee, and get down to business. Right? Right!

So what’s the backup plan then Dayle? I’m going to use the extra time to do a few things, that have been pulling on my digital work heartstrings for so long, but I haven’t had the proper time or the right headspce to devote effort. They're passion project but isn't that the dream? To be able to live off of the pursuit of your passions? At this point, there's no doubt in my mind that I'm not suited for that "9-5" so I better double down a bet on myself yea?

🎶Back to Life, Back to Residuals...

Right now @teamhumble and I have a bunch of side projects that I know we could build up to earn us a little drip feed of avocado and wine money in the future. One of them being our royalty free stock photos site nomad.pictures.

Since getting my new phone I haven’t devoted much time at all to taking photos. I want to get back on that, and get into the regular practice of adding 50 or so new photos per month.

I also want to get back into getting some more unique designs up on our t-shirt shop beeb.ee I went through a bit of a dry spell in terms of ideas, (mostly based on my own design limitations) but in the past week, we must have added at least 2 or 3 more to our running list of ideas so I think it’s time for another look at those. At the very least, it keeps my design skills sharp. And I really enjoy it

More VO Please!

It’s no secret that during all my puttering around the web, I've been working toward improving my voice acting portfolio and reel. My absolute dream would be to score a role in an animation or video game. But I also know there’s an insane amount of competition out there.

I’ve had some ideas to record a few different character voice packs for live streamers to use as sound bites or audience engagement triggers while they stream. If you watch any of the large accounts on Twitch like Dr. Disrespect you know exactly what I’m talking about. Thinking it would be kinda cool to put them up as DLC on a platform like Gumroad, for something like $0.99.

I’ve learned from building up a design portfolio, that you’ve got to put out the kind of work you want to get. Often times completely for free. It makes you better, and it offers a proof of concept for someone looking to hire you.

If you’re a noob, swallow your pride, make shit and ask to get paid when you’ve got people lined up to work with you.

I’ve also got a few leads for VO projects through Upwork that I need to take some time to chase down as well (one of the potential clients is also in Florida so I’ve been giving them some time).

Around the World and Steem-Again

Here’s where you all come in. It may sound silly to invest more time and energy while funds are taking a dip. If you look at my wallet, I probably only redeem between .50 -1.00 SBD a day, which is fine.

I’m not here to “get rich” I never was. From about the first week I started blogging regularly, I’ve had my posts to power up 100%. I haven’t cashed out any of my funds, and I’m not planning to any time soon.

For me, the value of Steemit lies in its users, our ability to create and collaborate together, and our common desire to tell stories and share life with one another. That’s a function no storm, no client and no AI can ever take away from me.

To that end, I’ll be devoting more time right here on Steemit. I’ve got my next 10 post ideas already waiting to be fleshed out. I’ll be working on new posts, more @texttosteem posts, giving more than I take, and trying to invest in helping new users get their footing.

The next 5-10 years are certainly going to be interesting for a semi-location independent, crypto-integrated digital freelancer. Lots more changes are coming, but I’m feeling a sense of peace. I’ve adapted before, and I’ll adapt again. That shit is practically written into my base code.

It’s all I’ve ever known, and today it’s serving me well.

You thought you could assimilate me huh? Not today Mother-Firmware. Take your collective consciousness someplace else. I’ve got work to do!
