Haha oooh boyâŠ. I usually donât assign much guilt to the music I like per-say. But that being said. I knowingly enjoy some pretty awful and cheesy music. Yes I know itâs bad, yes you might think less of me for liking it but sometimes, something about a song just hits you in the right way at the right time and it sticks with you.
I was nominated to share my guilty pleasure songs for this challenge by the lovely @bkdbkd so without further adueâŠ.
Azealia Banks - 212 Clean Edit
Haha okok this song is admittedly the ultimate basic-girl anthem, and DAMN is it crass as hell. Iâve included the âcleanâ edit because I didnât feel right about subjecting you to lyrics that would make a sailor blush⊠BUT THAT BEAT THO!
This song got me through many a long day dog walking in NYC. Up hills, early morning, rain, snow, wind, heat, anything. This is the song you pop on in the last leg of your workout when youâre OVER it and need one final push. Sorry...
Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
)Weâre taking a step back in time with this one. Jimmy Eat World was one of the first real PHYSICAL CDâs my little brother ever bought and we blasted this album CONSTANTLY. Yep two angsty middle class white kids in the 90âs. At least I never liked Emo music⊠even that was way too much for me. ;)
MxPx - Punk Rawk Show
From Jimmy, Dayleâs musical journey takes a turn down a Ska and Punk Rock route sheâd never quite funny recover from. I still love a lot of the music I listened to in my walkman with my wallet made from duct tape, safety pins, vespa patches and shoes I painted checker print onâŠ. If Jimmy Eat World was cheese⊠MXPX was Cheetos. But hey, at least it wasnât emo! Or worse.. screamo.. shudders
Weird Al - Genius In France
)Hahaha Iâm having to hold back cracking up as I write this and listen to the track. OK there are a few things you need to know. When all my pre-teen friends were listening to the Backstreet Boys and Brittany Spears. I was getting down to Weird Al. I wore a different Hawaiian shirt to school every day.. paired with THESE SketchersâŠ

⊠and my hair was ALWAYS in pigtails. Lord help me. But damn, did I know every word (and still do) to this song. Which was an homage to Frank Zappa whoâs son (Dweezil) plays the opening solo on the track.
Also, if youâre French please donât take offense to the lyrics of this song. Apparently this track may be a reference to the fact that American comedian Jerry Lewis was a respected filmmaker and actor in France (and other European countries) while in America he was often viewed as lowbrow and unfunny. via weirdalwikia.com
Kings of Convenience - Iâd Rather Dance
Iâm going to leave you with this one. Which is still lovely to listen to, but damn is it Hipster as hell. I still love it, but I get it. Youâve got two reject Norwegian Napoleon Dynamite characters bopping around in this video which makes the whole thing feel very much like a Flight of the Concords spoof. But if you just close your eyes for one moment, and picture yourself driving down a country lane on a sunny summer day, or preparing food for a Sunday lunch with great company and red wine⊠Maybe itâs just me, but I like where this little tune takes me.
Wow I really enjoyed taking that little audio trip down memory lane, thank you for nominating me to take part @bkdbkd! I know that this challenge was originally created by @sjennon for folks to translate their guilty pleasure songs into English with a theme, and I believe she was nominated by @osm0sis (haha trying to give all the credit here!!) but I took a slightly diferent approach.
In the spirit of keeping this going Iâll in turn nominate the great(s) @teamhumble & @lloyddavis whoâs music tastes I respect very much so Iâd love to see what their guilty pleasure songs are...
I hope youâre having a lovely Sunday wherever you are in the world <3
Until Next Time!
Dayleeo!
