1. Anything is a fidget cube, if you fidget with it

(ask the rock I found this morning.)

2. Never judge a yoga class by the way you feel half-way through

3. There really IS enough time for everything

(I’ll have to keep reminding myself of this one)

4. Yoga is really just the preamble to good meditation.

(Who knew the whole point of movement was getting to the stillness part?)

5. The day is never “LOST” or “RUINED”.

(Take a break, meditate, breathe deep and come back to it in an hour or so)

I’m not going to lie to you guys, despite all logic, I feel GOOD today. My sleep was pretty terrible last night, plus I’m fighting some sort of chesty-head cold (the technical term) and coughing up all kinds of alien material.

It’s DAMN cold this morning here but I felt like I really needed to get a good yoga practice in, so I turned to one of my old standbys when I was in the states called Fire It Up

What I totally forgot about this class is that it incorporates pranayama breath work. Mainly breath of fire, which, if you’re a sleepy sack of socks in the mornings like I am, breath of fire is just the thing, It’s like… controlled, core powered hyperventilation, done in short bursts, followed by long cleansing breaths. Super nice, opens the chest and lungs and gets oxygen flowing to your brain.

The counter breathing technique to breath of fire is alternate nose breathing, and let me tell you, it’s like a booster pack to insta-zen. There’s a reason why it’s so great that I read once, something about aligning the brain hemispheres? (If you know what I’m talking about please let me know in the comments below) Either way, I’d highly recommend that if you’re into meditation check out some pranayama, particularly breath of fire and alternate nose breathing.

I’m into anything that helps me break out of my normal patterns and brings me out of my head and back into my body. Maybe that’s part of why I’m feeling so energetic and focused today. Being too heady is exhausting. I’m guilty of it all the time.

OK THEN! I’ve got a to-do list that’s LAUGHABLY long, but that’s what green tea and coffee are for right?
